Creation of the Country Park

Designated in 1970, our beautiful country park has grown significantly since its inception, and has been a World Heritage Site since July 2021. The journey began with acquiring the quarry workshops and surrounding land, which later became our treasured Park Gwledig Padarn. What started as a simple idea has blossomed into a thriving, officially designated country park.

A local treasure

Initially, the park received minimal funding and developed slowly. Despite the challenges, it gradually expanded and became a cherished local treasure. A significant milestone was the purchase of the main quarry by an act of parliament. This officially became part of the park in 1970, along with the hospital.

After much development, this park is now the home to many loved attractions in North Wales.

Rich in heritage

Our park is rich in history and environmental significance, offering a unique blend of heritage. It’s important to note that the park is split between Llanberis and Llanddeiniolen, a distinction that highlights its distinctive identity. Over the years, the park has inherited many historical elements.

Today, our park stands as a testament to the area’s industrial past and its natural beauty, continuing to develop and thrive for future generations to enjoy. Whatever you’re interested in, Parc Padarn provides a great experience for everyone.

The Quarry Hospital

Our Park is the home of The Quarry Hospital, which originally maintained the health of 3,000 quarrymen and was the first hospital in Wales to have an X-ray machine! The Quarry Hospital showcases original medical equipment from the 1800’s.
